KATHRYN TURNER
School Magnet Coordinator

Mrs. Kathryn Turner serves as Mt. Baldy School’s School Magnet Coordinator, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep passion for environmental education to her role. Originally from Culver City, California, Kathryn’s journey to Mt. Baldy has taken her through a variety of landscapes—from the urban environment of Los Angeles to the redwoods of Northern California, the subtropics of Hawaii, and the deserts of the Southwest. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Soil Science from Humboldt State University and completed graduate coursework in Botany at the University of Hawaii, blending academic expertise with a lifelong love for the natural world.

Kathryn has dedicated over 20 years to working and volunteering in schools, primarily in garden and ecology education. Her professional background includes roles as a field biologist, agricultural researcher, and homeschooling educator, all of which contribute to her dynamic and hands-on approach to learning. At Mt. Baldy School, she develops and supports engaging, nature-based curriculum that encourages students to explore the environment, understand ecological systems, and develop a sense of stewardship for the world around them. Her work reflects a strong belief in the power of outdoor education to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful connections to learning.

As both an educator and a Mt. Baldy parent, Kathryn is deeply invested in the school community. She has three children—one grown and two currently in middle school—including her son, Sky, who is a student in the Deer classroom. Whether leading students in the school garden or collaborating with staff on magnet initiatives, Mrs. Turner brings enthusiasm, expertise, and a deep commitment to student growth. Mrs. Turner considers it a privilege to be part of the Mt. Baldy team and is proud to support the school’s mission through innovative and environmentally focused education.
